Pink!

  • Music: Cowboy Take Me Away!

I wrote this for my reading and writing tutorial. I had to write two paragraphs about why I like the color pink. I like it.

To me pink is the color of new birth and growth; it is the color of a prima ballerina’s tights as she moves with graceful strength. Pink reminds me of babies with rosy cheeks, cherry blossoms in the spring and dance classes with a woman who I thought was perfect. Soft pink is innocent and young, yet bright pink is hot, exciting and sexy. Pink is multi-faceted and ever changing. I am drawn to all that it offers because I too want to be innocent and sexy; graceful and strong; warm and inviting.

I see myself right now as a flower waiting for spring. I am hiding below the soft soil; I do not know what I am waiting for but when it comes I will know. It will make me want to rise up through the soil and spread my beautiful rosy petals towards the sun so that everyone can see how beautiful I am and all that I have to offer. I will be strong and sexy; women will want to be my friends and men will want to have me for their own. I will move with grace and power and little girls will wonder at me and want to be just like me. And I will be wearing pink.

Also, I am thinking about not doing this anymore.  Instead  I think that I will start a MySpace.  It is similar but updating won't be as difficult and hopefully I will be able to update more.  But none of this is set in stone yet.  So I'll keep you updated.

A Update!

  • Mood:
So this has been a good week.

On Tuesday night I had an orientation at KidsArt! which is a arts based afterschool program in Jamaica Plain. I will be going there for 3 hours once a week and it should be fun.

So because of the large amount of snow that fell here (30" in a period of 5 days) there were no classes on Monday or Wednesday. That made me happy even though I like my classes. It was nice to not have anything to do. Erin and I went sledding on Sunday and then made the trek down to 7-11 to pick-up necessary supplies (Oreos for me and cigarettes for Erin). We then came back and watched "sixteen candles" and ate pizza rolls and oreos. Then on Monday I got ahead on some work and was a general lazy slug. Wednesday I went out to Longhorn with Nina and Steph. We approve of the chicken tenders, the chilli, the fried cheese cake and the chocolate cake.

The rest of the week was pretty boring. Not much going on. Tonight my aunt Amy is picking me up here and we are going to drive to my aunt Beth house for the weekend. So if you don't see me for a couple days, I'm not dead I'm just in New Hampshire. It should be fun.

I'll write again soon! I miss everyone!

Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow!

  • Mood:
I just got back from venturing out in snow that is up to my knees and snowbanks and drifts that are certainly taller then little me. Right now they are saying that this could be one of the top 5 storms snow acculmalation-wise in Boston. I think that is pretty cool. I don't have a camera but I think that I might go find one so that I can post some pictures of surrealness of it all. The road that runs in front of my dorm usually has a constant flow of traffic and the only vehicles that I have seen out this morning are plows and police. When I went out for breakfast, one of the facilities guys had just snowblowed the path in front of my dorm and I probably would have stayed in if he hadn't b/c it would have been difficult to even open the door. I just saw on the TV some guy is out running. I want to go sledding but I will have to find a sled. I just realized that I am really rambling so I think I will move on.

I went to go see The Phantom of the Opera on Friday. I have decided that it is my new favorite movie musical. It even top Dirty Dancing, which those of you who know about my Dirty Dancing obsession know that is quite a statement. I read the 15 minute parody and I have to say that I wondered some of the same things while I was watching.

That's about it! I hope that everyone in a snow-infested area gets out and enjoys it

Moving and other tragedies of college life

  • Mood:
  • Music: Jon Stewart

First of all, I'm sorry that I haven't  updated in a while!  I have been going crazy with lots of different things...

Today I moved into a new dorm room.  I finally convinced the Residence Life Staff that the problems that my roommates and I were having were not going to get better through mediation and things happened very fast after that.  I talked to the director of residence life on Wednesday and I got my new keys today!!  But I also have to start visiting the counseling center once a week but that is peobably for the best too.  All in all I think that I will be much happier now that I am not around the pot smoking alcoholics...

In other news, I went home this past weekend.  I saw The Incredibles with Lynn and then we joined Sara and Christine for dinner at the Ground Round.  Then we all went over to the old stomping ground to see The Odd Couple.  It was good to see all my friends and some teachers from St. Dom's.  The play was pretty good too.

I also went to Sierra's baptism on Sunday.  She was sooo good.  She didn't even whimper when Fr. Dan poured the water over her.  She is such a good baby!!  I love her sooooo much!!

Well I hope that everyone is having a good day/ week/ month!!  I'll definatly try to update more frequently because I have been told that this is some of the only entertainment that some of you get...  Later for now!!!

Feeling a little down...

  • Mood:
So I have decided that I need to go talk to my RA about getting a room change for next semester. The situation that I am in just isn't working out. I feel like I always have to be "ready" here and I can't just be my fun self. My roomies and the other people that are always in my room don't understand like most of you do that I am hardly ever serious. I have to watch what I say because they will think that I am being mean or too silly, but that is just the way that I am. I don't feel like I belong in this room. I'm not saying that I don't think that I fit in somewhere at this school, I have so much fun at Sign Choir and when I'm with Mary Beth and Erin,  it's just that my roomies are not the type of people who will ever understand where I am coming from or how I am. So I'm going to be hanging out in Erin's room more often and finding other ways to get out of my room until I figure out what is going to happenl! And until then, I will just have to deal.   Well that's all for now. I hope that you all are feeling better then I am today !
Love You Lots!

An Update!

  • Mood:

So a few of you have said that it is time for and update, and I just looked over it and I guess that you are right.  So much has happened since the my birthday weekend!  I guess that I will start with my birthday.

So I went out to do some shopping with Mary Beth, because I didn't really have a top that I wanted to wear out that night.  I found a really cute one at GAP.  I also loaded up on anti- bac gel at Bath & Body Work because they were having a 5 for $10 sale and I needed a bunch because I live in a dorm with students that are constantly going out to work in schools and hospitals and invariably bring back every virus in the Boston metro area.  It ended up that I got almost $30 worth of stuff for $10. Pretty neat I think!  So then we went down to South Station to meet Lynn.  Mom, Dad, Ben and Kathy met all 3 of us there and we head back to my dorm room.  Mom and dad gave me my pressies:  I new duffel bag w/ wheels to bring all my stuff home in, a new blanket to keep me warm at night and a hat and mittens to keep me warm the rest of the time.  Lynn gave me a new purse; I don't know how she figured out that I wanted it, I didn't tell her exactly what to get me or anything...  So we went to dinner at The Cheesecake Factory!  It was yummy, I had the fish tacos and the chocolate satin cheese cake!  Then we took the T back the dorm and said goodbyes.  Lynn and ended up going out by ourselves b/c Mary Beth got sick and no one on my floor wanted to go.  Suffice to say it was no fun.  We ended up coming back a 12:30.  Slept in the next morning and then I escorted Lynn back to South Station.  I came back to campus and I went to the Prospective Student Overnight Recption and met my Overnighter, Alycia.  She was pretty cute.  We went to the movies and saw Wimbeldon.  On Monday Alycia came to my English but she didn't really want to go to math so she left.

The rest of the week was pretty uneventful until Thursday. I had a paper due on Thursday afternoon and on Wednesday night at 10:00 I had a sentance written.  Needless to say, mom got a paniced phone cal.  After a Diet Pepsi and a little bit of peppy music, I was rolling and I had it done by 1!  Yea!

I went home on Friday.  I had to sit on the floor of the train from Boston to Exeter and an old man fell on me, but I got through it.  Then there was the couple that was making out in the seat across the aisle from Wells to Portland.  I was reading my Human Growth and Development book and I thought that it would have been nice to show them the pictures of the live birth, but I resisted the tempation and just switched seats when there was one available.  I had a good time while I was home.  I hung out with Sara, Christine and Lynn.  I saw 2 movies: Ladder 49 and Without a Paddle.  Both were good in their own ways.  Then I came back to Beantown one Tuesday morning.  The rest of the week has been pretty normal.  Mom will be here today for Family and Friends Weekend so that should be fun.  I'll update on Monday I think so that you know how the weekend went.  Talk to y'all then!

It's Been a Long Strange Week

  • Mood: Excited!
  • Music: "It's My Party"

Hey everyone!

I know that it has been a while since I posted something but this week has been insane!  Aunt Diane is getting on my case so it must be about time for an update.  J/K!  I guess that I will start where I left off last time.

Friday: My roomies gave me a makeover and then I went out to Axis, an 18+ club on Lansdowne St.  It was ladies night so I got in free and it was fun danced for 3 hours straight then came home and hung out with some other people from my dorm for awhile.  Finally went to bed at 4 am.

Saturday:  Got up and went to brunch at 11 and didn't really do much the rest of the day.  Got some homework done b/c I was planning on going out on Sunday afternoon.  Watched TLC for the first time since I've been here and made a couple of hemp necklaces to prevent myself from eating a whole box of Wheat Thins.  Went to bed early.

Sunday:  Got up fairly early (like 9:30) and went to breakfast all by myself b/c my roomies were passed out still and I didn't want to wake them up.  Came back and did some more studying.  Then at 2 there was a group of upperclassmen who volunteered to bring a group of students up to the Prudential Skywalk, so I decided to join them.  It was a fun time and I could see the scoreboard of the Red Sox/ Yankees game if I used the provided binoculars.  We went out to The Cheesecake Factory afterwards, YUM!  I wanted to get the Fish Tacos but they were out of them so I had to settle for the Thai Peanut Pasta, which was a very good second choice.  I got the Taramisu cheesecake, quite possibly one of my favorite desserts now!  I got back to campus just in time to make it for the Open Forum for student elections.  I got to stand up and introduce myself and say why I would be a good house council member.  That was fun and I stole the free desserts to take back up to the room for later...  Just don't tell food services...

Monday: Three classes and then came back to my room at 4.  My friend Erin had a roommate crisis and so we went to McDonalds for dinner and got some chocolate before coming home.  She ended up going back to NH for a couple of days, so we didn't get to eat our chocolate together!

Tuesday: Got 2 packages!  1 from Mthr. B and 1 from Nana and Grumpy.  There were some good eats and some college neccesities not to mention blonde brownies from Nana and a bunch of hot cocoa and tea from Mthr. B!

Wed:  Got done with classes at 1!  Mary Beth and I went down to Fanuiel Hall to do some shopping in prepartion for our BIG Saturday night out.  I got a free gift at Vikkie's (a huge tote bag with like 4 full size lotions and stuff in it!) and I new pair of jeans!  Guess what,  I have dropped 2 sizes since the beginnning of the summer!  I tried on the 16s and they were falling off so I tried the 12s and Voila!  Perfect fit!  I was doing a little celebration dance in the dressing room and all the people gave me funny looks... But anyway... Hooray for the laxitives that they apparently put in the food in the caf!

Thurs:  Had placement in the morning and took my first observations!  My focus child was cranky this morning and we were sitting so we were sitting and reading a book and he fell asleep in my lap!  It was fun.  When I got back I found out that my friend came back from NH and got a new room!  A single all to herself!  The lucky darling!  I was jealous for about 2 seconds then I was like "I wouldn't have wanted to have her roommate if they offered me a supermodel's body and a perfect GPA" so I relented and helped her to pack up her stuff.  Now she lives in another building instead of next door and the makes me sad!    But on a happier note I got the Public Relations spot on the house coucil!  I was running unopposed but it was still a good feeling to win.  I've had an aversion to student government type things ever since I had a bad experience with it in 3rd grade but now I am back in the swing of things... it only took 10 years!

And that brings us to... TODAY!  I got my English paper back... not too bad... got a "B".  Also got back a test that I got a "B" on.  I guess that others in my class did not do as well so I am pretty happy with those grades.  Human Growth and Development was neat today.  We started in the library learning about finding journal articles and other referances for our first anaylsis paper that is due in November.  Then we got to go to a session of the Conferance on Child Development that is being held here today and tommorrow.

This weekend will be a good time.  Lynn is coming down from Worchester to go out for our birthday.  The parentals and Ben are coming to bring us to dinner, Yey!  Then I am hosting a perspective student overnight on Sunday!  The plan is to bring our students down to the Loews by Boston Common.  And YEY!  Host students i.e. me get $15 to spend at the movies and T tokens to get there!  Should be fun!

So that's it for now!  I'll try to update a little more often so that these entries are not so long!

First Day at Field Placement and Block Party at Wentworth

Hello everyone,

So today was the first day of the "Field Experience" part of my Human Growth and Development class.  What I have to do is spend 3 hours once a week in a child care setting.  I have to choose a "focus child" that I will take detailed observations on and write analysis based on the observations.  Today I had to go and get aquainted with the center, the teachers and kids.  I got palced in the "older infant" rooms, the kids are about 9-13 months.  I had to pick-out a focus child if possible and leave the paper work for the parents.  I picked my focus child, he is just getting ready to walk and I thought that it was a good age to observe motor skills and such.  Anyway, I had a fun playing with the kids.  It will be fun going there on Thursday mornings.

So the rest of my day was pretty much a blur b/c I had math class and hour after I got back from placement and History of Drama, which is a 3 hour class, 15 minutes after math (got that? no? well it was busy anyway!)

The cafateria was closed tonight because the consortium that Wheelock is a part of, Colleges of the Fenway, had a "Fall Festival and Block Party" at Wentworth.  There were tons of people there and I signed up to win free airline tickets and a $25,000 shopping spree at H&M.  They also had a obstacle course, a jump house, a strength test kind of thing, and a climbing wall.  Mary Beth and I did the obstacle course (she won 3 times), the climbing wall (she won again) and the strength test (I won!).  We had lots of fun.

Well I'll write again soon!

Julie's Convocation, and the big adventure...

  • Mood:

So today was convocation.  For anyone that doesn't know what that is, it is basically when they dress up the freshmen and the seniors in gowns (yes, as in graduation gowns) and make us process into the auditorium, some people talk to us and then we process out again.  It didn't take more than 45 minutes and I got to sleep later then if it had been a regular Wednesday (b/c I have a 9:20 English class and Covocation wasn't until 10:30), but I think that I would have preferred to go to English class anyway.  Anyone else have a convocation at their college?  I was just wondering b/c I had never heard of it until now.  They said that it will mean more to us as seniors, but today it just didn't seem like any thing to write home about.  And yet I am in a way, hmmm...

Well now on to the big adventure!  My friend Erin had to go down to City Hall to get a copy of her birth certicicate and asked me to fo with her.  Of course I did b/c I have stayed pretty much on campus for the last couple of days and I wanted to get out.  After my Math class, we got on the "T" and went to Gov't Center.   We went to City Hall and found out that the Births, Deaths and Marriges is closed on Wednesdays.  It is open everyother weekday, but it is closed on Wednesdays, if this makes sense to anyone please explain it to me b/c it seems rather silly to me.  But we got to go through Security, so that was fun.  Erin was supposed to see her Aunt while she was down town so we went to meet her.  But she never showed up so we went to lunch.  We wanted McDonald's so we just started walking towards Down Town Crossing figuring that we would find a McDonalds along the way,  and guess what, we did!  But Wendy's was right next door and decided that we wanted Wendy's instead.  Let me tell you, it was really good.  I have not eaten in the Caf for every meal but when you haven't eaten fast food in awhile, it tastes really good.  So anyway we window shopped a Down Town Crossing for awhile and then headed up towards Boston Common.  Then the was the Great Wait for a Green "D" line train.  We waited for a good 20 minutes for the train to come and when it did it was already packed.  I have been on a full "T" car before but this was rediculous.  I wasn't close enough to hold on to any bar or railing but it turns out that it was okay b/c I couldn't move anyway.  Erin eventually got a seat and I could stand next to her and I felt at least a little more comfortable.

So that was today.  I hope that you enjoyed living vicariously through me.  Be sure to check back soon as I continue to amaze and suprise you!

~Julie
